Enid Blyton Biography

IMAGINE….. You are walking around a publishers building Waiting for answers, for answers to this question: ‘Has my book been accepted?’. You are Enid Mary Blyton, soon to be a world famous writer. You also adore children.


Childhood
Enid was born in 1896, in Dulwich, London. Her birth name was Enid Mary Waters, later To become Enid Mary Blyton for that is fathers last name Blyton I mean. Enid loved to write. Her parents were Thomas Carey Blyton his job was a salesman of cutlery and mother was Theresa Mary Harrison her mother was a mother so she didn’t have a job. Enid’s family moved to Beckenham in about 1899. She later started in a school called ST Christopher’s School when she left there she was head girl.


Teen years
Enid started writing as a teenager. When she was just 14 she won her first writing competition, coming first in a poetry competition. When she was 19 she became a teacher for love of children. While teaching she still managed to write and her first books were published while she taught.


Adult years
Enid got married to Major Hugh Alexander Pollock. Their marriage was on the 28th of August 1924. That is why she is also known as Mary Pollock. As you already know she as in Enid started publishing as a young adult but continued to write after teaching.


 The Famous Five
Enid’s books are sensational! They capture peoples imagine and made them dig deeper in their lives. The Famous Five is only one of the series she has written, it is about four children and their dog well Georgina’s dog, his name is Timmy. The children’s names are Anne, Dick, Julian and as you have just heard Georgina who likes to thought of as a girl and likes to called George.


 Death
Enid died in 1968 after publishing over four series and over 800 books in total! She left behind a great collection of stories for all ages. Kids and adults around the globe adore her.


 Life without her
Life without wonderful Enid would be a tragedy, for everything she has done, the Children she taught and the books she wrote will be around forever. We love you Enid Mary Blyton.
